Citilabs is pleased to announce Summer of Cube 2008, a competition for students doing transportation research. The competition offers students an exciting opportunity to develop hands-on skills and publicize research that uses CUBE, a comprehensive software suite that supports all aspects of transportation planning.
The winner of the 2008 Summer of CUBE student competition will receive a complimentary trip to Palm Springs for Futura 08, the Citilabs International User Conference. At the conference, the winner will present the winning paper and be honored at the annual Cubie awards ceremony.
Who may participate?
Any college or university undergraduate or graduate student studying planning, engineering, transportation, or systems modeling may participate in the competition.
How does the competition work?
The competition has two phases. During the first phase, students identify professors to endorse their application and submit abstracts describing their project. Citilabs will review proposals for eligibility and issue software research licenses if necessary.
During the second phase, students conduct research, and prepare and submit final papers.
What projects are eligible?
Any project or study that students complete using CUBE is eligible for submission. Citilabs particularly encourages projects demonstrating:
- Innovative modeling methods
- Especially creative or efficient application design
- ESRI GIS technology integration
- Integration of various types of models, such as land-use, passenger, and freight
- Solutions to energy and environmental issues
- Modeling efforts that support good policy decision-making
How do I enter?
- Identify a professor to endorse your application, such as your academic advisor or principal research investigator.
- Prepare a one-paragraph abstract describing your project and how it uses CUBE software.
- Submit the abstract by e-mail to summer@citilabs.com by March 31, 2008.
Place Summer of CUBE in the subject line.
Include full contact details in the message body. This must include your name, address, academic institution and department, and sponsoring professor or academic advisor.
- Citilabs will review your abstract for eligibility and send instructions for final submittal by April 30, 2008. Citilabs reserves the right to disqualify entries if we cannot reach you or your advisor, or if your project is otherwise unsuitable, such as if it does not use CUBE software.
- Prepare and submit your final paper by August 31, 2008.
Citilabs will notify the winner by September 30, 2008, allowing time to make travel arrangements to Palm Springs in November.
